Elkhart County is a beautiful place to live and I want to help make it even better. I recognize that we live in one of the fastest growing manufacturing counties in the state and that we are in need more places to build manufacturing. I understand that we have a housing shortage throughout Elkhart County and that the City of Elkhart has large areas that need redevelopment. I acknowledge the residents of Elkhart County love our agriculture businesses because they add value to our economic diversity and quality of life. I believe it is time for a new comprehensive land use plan that brings all these interests and needs together in a way that revitalizes downtown areas, supports economic growth and conserves green space. This is not an easy task but acknowledging we need to be intentional about it is the first step. Thus I am committed to collaborating with many different groups in order to manage these steps.
We have got to give our family farms more opportunities to be profitable again. This is one of the top reasons I am running. I believe our county farmers need to be supported more. Many people like to eat locally sourced food which is why we need wider use of local food and land use policies which benefit the smaller farmers producing this local food. This also goes beyond farming as it's a great example of diversity. If I am elected, I will make it a priority to assist promoting farmers to our local residents to increase local farmer sales.
Roads and Infrastructure
Roads and infrastructure is something I believe we need to continually to expand. My goals are to improve our roads, highways, sidewalks in county residential and subdivision areas. If we create more bike paths along county roads, for instance, this could help decrease obesity in adults and children and also have a positive impact in the ways families spend time outdoors. Creating more handicap accessible areas in parks, parking lots and buildings are also important to me and I feel confident my experience and skills in finance and budgeting will help keep a balanced budget under control.
